The Life of a Scrabble Director is…

Never done.  After spending 8 hours at Club yesterday, I came home last night exhausted as usual but spent another hour on the phone speaking with 2 prospective new members of Club 34 who will be making their inaugural appearances next Tuesday.  Irene Okwuosa is an RN from Harbor City who found us from our new advertising campaign.  She loves Scrabble and is looking forward to meeting us next Tuesday night.  Liz Graef is a retired business executive and now part time dog walker from Dana Point.  She found us on Facebook and has been looking for a long time for a club like Club 34.  She will meet us next Tuesday afternoon.

21 and 12 showed up yesterday.  I was happy to see Lisa Ocone make her second appearance last night.  She certainly has the passion and skill set to become a very good player in the future.  I was very happy to see once again Sheila Bulthuis in the afternoon.  She brought her daughter visiting from Boston where she attends college and husband Zach who has come to the Club before.  With a little bit of coaxing, I think I can get him to return in the near future.

The Nationals are over!  We have mixed results in regards to our members.  In Div 1 Yuki Loritz ended up l7-13, Bruce 14-17.  In Div 2 David Postal 18-13, Ken Louie l3-18.  In Div 4 Paul Rickoff 18-13.  And there you have it.

Our new 2-1 policy took effect yesterday whereby everybody will participate.  When your turn comes up and you dont want to play against 2 players, you can take a bye and get credit for it.

Some exciting stuff for Club 34 next month.  Lorry Higgins will have her next foodfest September 11.  Thats right 9/11.  The first 24 to sign up will be invited.  Keep the following 2 Tuesdays open, September l8 and 25 for our next annual tournament.  I have changed my mind and have decided that it will be an open tournament.  There will be a minimal $5 entry fee.  The first game will be strictly random, then the following games based on record and point spread.  The grand winner will receive the first ever Club 34 trophy with name engraved and a $100 IHOP gift certificate.  We obviously cant reward the winner with a year’s free admission since Club 34 is free so the gift card and trophy will have to suffice.  Lets have everyone participate!!  Maybe I can get one of the local newspapers to come and witness and write about the event.  Thats still up in the air.

I know of at least 2 new players who will visit us next week.  Lets have everyone come and welcome them to the Club 34 family…
