What more can be said about Club 34 that hasnt been said already?? Our annual Christmas party happened last night and what a success!! There was a slight problem at the start with a scarcity of food and help from the IHOP but we all managed to survive. It does bring to light however the strong possibility that next year I will have the party at a local restaurant.
Four members were honored for their contributions and support of Club 34 for the last several years. Maxine Marcus, Amnon Meyers and Paul Trachtenberg were praised for their wonderful support with $50 IHOP gift cards. They were overwhelmed to say the least.
But our member and player of the year 2018 went to Dr. Najat Reikes for her 23 year history of support and constant attendance with Club activities. She has come a long way from those dark days on the Tigris river to what she is today!! Even her Scrabble game has improved quite a bit from what I remember it to be in 1996!!
For the fourth time in our Club history, the 30 mark was reached as 30 and l5 players attended both sessions. A new player presented himself for the whole day. Robertson Bower is vacationing in Southern California for the next few months hopefully. Robertson is from the Toronto area, a retired tennis instructor, now writing his first book on children’s literature and philosophy.
I want to give out a shout to Mark Bennett for his best imitations of Clarabelle the clown and to Inge Weinfeld for her beautiful renditions on the diatonic hand held harmonica. They provided wonderful entertainment for the party last night.
Next Tuesday will be our last meeting of the year. A short discussion will be held prior to the afternoon games to discuss some minor changes to our Club divisions. Some players will move up to the A division and perhaps some will go down to the B division. If you are on the cuff and want to defend your position, I strongly recommend you attend next week.
My yearly State of the Union address will be forthcoming. You wont want to miss that. I will speak of what transpired this year, who we lost and who joined our Club, what happened this year and what we have to look forward to in 2019. Stay tuned..
