Welcome to Club #34, the longest running Scrabble club in the United States, founded in 1978 in Los Angeles by Geneva Akers. In the 1980s, Geneva moved the club to Huntington Beach. In the 1990s, Penny Baker and her husband took the club over and moved it to its current location, the IHOP restaurant near the intersection of Beach and Ellis Boulevards in Huntington Beach, California. In the early 2000s Penny Baker retired from the Scrabble scene and her co-director Paul Trachtenberg took over the leadership on a full time basis.
Paul ran Club #34 for many years before stepping down as full time director in April 2014. David Poder and Tom Titus took over directorship and currently are putting into place many ideas that are allowing Club #34 to grow and flourish into one of the finest Scrabble clubs in the world. We welcome all players to join us on Tuesday where we play two free sessions that meet at IHOP at 1 and 6pm.
